They want my money, but find the holiday that I celebrate so offensive they can’t even bring themselves to say the dreaded word “Christmas”:
Several retailers along Woodward in downtown Detroit are setting up for “Holiday DLight: Made in Detroit,” an effort to bring shopping to the city for the holiday season. And this is even more pathetic:
The holiday shops are being set up around Detroit and several storefronts are being built for retailers like Moosejaw and Papa Joe’s Snack Shop.
The annual holiday tree lighting ceremony in Campus Martius also will usher in seasonal retail to downtown Detroit. Not one mention of Christmas.
A number of shops will be open three days each week through Dec. 22 as part of “Holiday DLight: Made in Detroit” which debuts Friday.
Quicken Loans is sponsoring the annual winter celebration in Campus Martius. The online home mortgage lender also is working with the Somerset Collection’s CityLoft to activate vacant storefronts for the shops which have become popular downtown.
The lineup this year includes outdoor retailer Moosejaw, Santa’s Wonderland, the Detroit Art Shoppe and fitness studio Spinergy. They will be open Thursdays through Saturdays.
Ice skating shows, horse drawn carriage rides and musical performances will be part of Friday afternoon’s events. The 55-foot-tall tree will be lit at 7:45 p.m.
