Students in a California school district will not be allowed to wear American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo, due to concerns that such displays of patriotism would inflame racial tensions by offending Mexican students on their holiday.

About 30 protesters holding American flags are silently standing outside of Live Oak High School on the anniversary of a controversial incident that gained national attention.
The protesters have indicated they won’t have anything to say until classes start at 8:15 a.m.
Students arrived at school under tight police security, four years after a small group of Live Oak students came to school on Cinco de Mayo wearing American flag T-shirts, saying it was a sign of their patriotism.
