There is little doubt Charlie Crist is playing the race card these days. He may also be right.
The former governor, who wants his job back, says the infamous hug with President Barack Obama in 2009 that caused convulsions among Republicans was at least partially racially driven.
Crist and Obama, you will recall, engaged in an airport man-hug as Obama came to Florida with stimulus cash in hand. Republicans cringed.
“I think another part of it was that he was a Democrat, but not just a Democrat, an African-American,” Crist said during an appearance this week on “The Colbert Report.” Crist, who was a Republican back in 2009, is running as a Democrat this year.
