On the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Obama commemorated the somber occasion by honoring … President Obama. The White House Twitter account sent out this photo today (taken in 2011):

It’s as if he is physically and mentally incapable of paying tribute to anyone other than himself...

GRIM MILESTONE: Welfare Spending Per Household Surpasses the Median American's Income

Trillions of dollars have been laundered through the welfare bureaucracy since the inception of "Great Society". And what do we have to show for it?

Rampant fraud and increased poverty:

The amount of money spent on welfare programs equals, when converted to cash payments, about "$168 per day for every household in poverty"...

...welfare spending per day per household in poverty is $168, which is higher than the $137 median income per day. When broken down per hour, welfare spending per hour per household in poverty is $30.60, which is higher than the $25.03 median income per hour.

History teaches us -- or at least, the intelligent among us, which rules out Democrats -- that collectivism spreads misery.

We are headed for fiscal collapse -- and the welfare state keeps growing like a cancer, incentivizing sloth, formalizing a culture of dependency, and killing self-sufficiency.

Liberty, I am sad to say, is on the wane.

It Begins… Obama’s Ministry Of Truth Replacing Great Literature With Propaganda In The Classroom

The only solution to this is to allow parents to get vouchers for the cost of public school education that they can use to get their children out of these government propaganda factories. The Obama Administration has launched its newest campaign to confiscate the minds of our children.  To qualify for federal grant funds, Obama is requiring states to adopt a new program called Common Core State Standards In English.  The program would wipe great works of literature from English curriculums across the country.  And replace them with “information text”, such as “Executive Order 13423: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management”, an Order, of course, favorable to the Liberal environmentalist movement.

Controversy is brewing over new Common Core State Standards in English that call on public schools to emphasize the reading of “information text” instead of fictional literature. According to the Washington Post, English teachers across the country are upset by what they consider the government’s effort “to drive literature out of the classroom.”
English teachers are right to be upset, but they shouldn’t take it personally. The government has nothing much against literature, per se. Rather, this initiative is driven in large part by the desire to promote political propaganda in the classroom. The study of literature is being downgraded in the process, but for a good cause.
Consider that one of the “informational texts” recommended as a replacement for, say, Great Expectations is “Executive Order 13423: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management.” Students would thus study government propaganda in English class (this Executive Order was issued under President Bush, but it is still propaganda — a political sop to the environmental left, as Stanley Kurtz shows).
Another Common Core’s non-fiction exemplar is an excerpt from a 2009 New Yorker essay by Atul Gawande on health care. This too is propaganda – an effort to show that Obamacare is wise policy.
Proponents of downgrading the teaching of literature claim that their goal is to make sure U.S. students can read and understand complicated texts. But there are plenty of complicated texts that don’t amount to political propaganda, much less propaganda relating to current hot-button policy issues in which the Obama administration is heavily invested. If teaching students how to read such texts were the only goal here, the list of exemplar tests wouldn’t include one-sided political tracts about health care and the environment.
Consider also where the Common Core comes from? The Washington Post tries to make it appear that the new curriculum percolated up from the states. But at the back end of its story we find that “the Obama administration kicked the notion into high gear when it required states to adopt the common standards — or an equivalent — in order to compete for Race to the Top grant funds.” (emphasis added).
The Common Core, then, should be viewed, at least in part, as an attempt by the Obama administration to gain control of what is taught in public schools for the purpose of indoctrination. As Stanley Kurtz puts it, “Obama has managed to press direct support for his most cherished and controversial policy initiative onto your local school district.”

I wonder if Obama will be obvious enough to begin his order of mass removal with 1984?  This egregious scheme of Obama Think indoctrination on our current and future generations of children has English teachers furious.  The rest of the country should be, as well.  And states should refuse to participate.

Of course Charlie Crist seems to change political affiliations about as often as people in San Francisco change genders. A dead whale rotting near the Malibu homes of Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan and other celebrities is causing a gigantic cleanup problem as authorities try to decide who’s responsible for getting rid of it.

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- No government agency is taking action to remove the decaying carcass of a whale on a California beach, making it appear the job will be left to Mother Nature.

The corpse of the huge fin whale created a spectacle on Friday as people wandered down the narrow Malibu beach to look at the remains - white bones, rolls of blubber and the tail flukes trailing along the water's edge.

The homes of movie stars, celebrities and others line the cliffs high above the slender beach.

Looking over the whale, Malibu resident Ben Dossett suggested there was now no need to try to remove it.

Congress and White House to Put Thousands of Charities Out of Business

Most charities in the United States rely on donations as their primary source of income.  When donations are made to a non-profit charity, they become a tax deduction to the person or corporation giving the donation.  Subsequently, many people only give donations because of the tax deduction they receive.   This can be seen in the fact that many non-profit charities receive a third to half of their annual donations in the month December as people begin to think about income taxes and the need for deductions.

Now, those tax deductions are in danger of being reduced or disappearing all together and if they do, a large percentage of donations will also disappear resulting in many a charity having to close their doors and it all has to do with the infamous fiscal cliff.

One of the economic plans being put forth by Democrats calls for the reduction of allowable charitable tax deductions.  Others are proposing a cap on the amount of allowable charitable tax deductions and yet others are abdicating dropping all tax deductions for charitable donations.

Any of these plans will have a drastic impact on many non-profit charities.  Reducing the deduction amount or placing a cap on allowable deductions will hurt many charities.  Dropping all tax deductions will be devastating to non-profit charities resulting in many of them no longer being able to afford to help those in need.  Hundreds and thousands of charities will cease to exist.

But don’t think the Democrats are alone on this idea.  The plan put forth by House Speaker John Boehner last week also called for a reduction in the tax deductions for charitable giving.  In this respect, his plan was no different than what the Democrats are considering.

If I still worked for a non-profit charity, I would be getting very nervous right now, especially with both sides of the table talking about reducing or eliminating tax deductions for charitable donations.  Will non-profit charities have to start laying off staff or cutting their outreach?  For many, their future does not appear to be very bright as we enter into the Christmas holiday season.
