Must every tragic mass shooting bring out the shrill ignorance of “gun control” advocates?
The key fallacy of so-called gun-control laws is that such laws do not in fact control guns.
They simply disarm law-abiding citizens, while people bent on violence find firearms readily available.
If gun-control zealots had any respect for facts, they would have discovered this long ago, because there have been too many factual studies over the years to leave any serious doubt about gun-control laws being not merely futile but counterproductive.
Places and times with the strongest gun-control laws have often been places and times with high murder rates. Washington, D.C., is a classic example, but just one among many.
The rate of gun ownership is higher in rural areas than in urban areas, but the murder rate is higher in urban areas. The rate of gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks. For the country as a whole, hand-gun ownership doubled in the late 20th century, while the murder rate went down.

No one, absolutely no one would dispute the fact that what happened in Newtown was horrific and wrong.
At the same time, it becomes increasingly clear that progressives, who think that government control is the solution to every problem, are using this tragedy to chip away at the 2nd Amendment which they have long despised.
The NRA did not commit murder, yet since last Friday some liberals have been calling for the murder of NRA officials. They want someone to blame, they want something to be done and they want government to do it. That position is ignorant and dangerous to American freedoms.
The classic liberal argument against the 2nd Amendment is this: When the founders wrote the 2nd Amendment, the most powerful gun in America was the musket. They never planned for more advanced weapons.
Agreed. They probably also never envisioned the remotely manned drones our current president uses to take out anyone who’s named on his personal kill list. Surely, America’s founders never envisioned the F-16 fighter planes our current president is giving to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
I have never owned a gun in my life and I have no plans to acquire one but I won’t even consider surrendering my right to do so until the American left admits that they’re using mass murder to foment panic for a blatant political power grab.
In other words… never.
